Last time we worked with our pals at @eightyeightbrew we put smiles on every face, including our own! Now, more than a year later, combining forces again towards similar ends (a banging Imperial New England IPA) sounded like a good way to get our hands on a second serving of just what we needed. And just in time to brew our 1000th batch, to boot!

This time, we hosted the party and invited what felt like 88 of our beer-brewing friends from Portland Street down to our house and got cracking. Thirsty to try out a few new technical tricks and flourishes, we brewed this beer using Salvo, a new hop product that’s basically supercharged lupulin in a semi-liquid form. Turns out this is an excellent way to guarantee a beer is absolutely dripping in hop intensity without proportionate bitterness—science really does rule!

Even though it weighs in with an appropriate ABV of 8.8, this beer is a bit of a concealed weapon. The debittered lupulin concentrate we mentioned helps it taste tamer than it is, even takes some credit for its juicy (practically pulpy!) appearance in the glass and its pithy citrus finish.
