Scout 'Riesling'

Natural White Wine

Thanks to our folks at Tantalus winery in the Okanagan, we had the opportunity to work with Riesling grapes from the acclaimed Picone Vineyard, located atop the Niagara Escarpment in the Vinemount Ridge sub-appellation of Ontario. It allowed us to keep making Riesling in 2024, when we lost our crops to winter freeze. It proved to be a fun and educational way to work with grapes from a completely different terroir. With the exception of three days of cold settling during transport, we made the wine the same way we make our Riesling every year, naturally fermented in old, neutral barrels. The ferment was reasonably quick, only a couple months before it went fully dry, and then left untouched, to age for 18 months. Bottled unfiltered, and unfined. This is more “classic” in style, with defined orchard fruit, showing those classic apple and pear notes, as well as some peach fragrance. There is some spice here too, while the texture is leaner. We have been enjoying tasting it side by side with Rieslings from our own site.
