Perhaps not everyone knows that Spritz has historical origins! In fact, this simple cocktail was born during the Austrian domination in Friuli and Veneto between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. For the Habsburg soldiers, accustomed to beer, the white wine of the Veneto peasants was too alcoholic, which is why they used to "stretch" it with a splash of water, preferably carbonated, "spritzen".
